YLess4U to provide state-of-the-art Wi-Fi for Field Days

Local rural Wi-Fi experts, YLess4U, have announced that they will provide new and improved internet and Wi-Fi capabilities across the Recreation Grounds for this year’s Murrumbateman Field Days (MFD). The MFD and YLess4U have come up with a solution that will ensure the internet and Wi-Fi at this year’s event is up to the task.

Jason Green, Director at YLess4U, said: “We have been working with our partners at Cambium Networks, a world renown supplier of fixed wireless network equipment, to ensure both the Wi-Fi and internet at the Recreation Grounds can cope with demand during the Field Days. Cambium has a proven track record of installing internet at high density venues, such as Randwick Racecourse in Sydney, so that, combined with YLess4U taking over responsibility for both the internet connection and the Wi-Fi network, will ensure it works effectively end to end”

YLess4U will be installing new start-of-the-art equipment designed to connect many devices to a network in dense crowd conditions. 60Ghz radio equipment will connect to the network of YLess4U hilltop communication towers surrounding the venue, and tri-band radios with the latest Wi-Fi 6 capability will enable many devices to connect to a single internet source.

YLess4U technical staff, with their decades of experience installing Wi-Fi at major events, will be onsite to ensure the systems runs smoothly.

Tom White, MFD Manager said: “We are delighted that YLess4U are providing a solution with their state-of-the-art rural internet technology designed for big events such as the Field Days. We can now expect considerable connectivity improvements from last year and are pleased that YLess4U staff will be running all aspects of the Wi-Fi and internet systems from end to end. We will have dedicated band-with for ticket sale machines, exhibitors EFTPOS machines and visitors, so the internet experience will be much improved”.

YLess4U are providing their services as part of their support to the local community. Jason said: “The YLess4U team are really pleased to support the Field Days as part of our Free Wi-Fi for Communities’ program – it is our way of giving something back to the communities that support YLess4U. We currently provide free internet connectivity to the Murrumbateman Community Association, Murrumbateman Men’s Shed, as well as local RFS stations and community halls in our rural coverage areas north and south of Canberra”.

Field Days to Boost Agritourism with NSW Government Funding

The award-winning Murrumbateman Field Days will enhance its agritourism promotion in the Illawarra, Hume Corridor and Far South Coast regions, thanks to a $20,000 grant from the NSW Government’s Regional Event Fund. This funding, part of a $1.3 million initiative supporting 66 events across NSW, will help extend the event’s reach and attract more visitors. Tom White, manager of the Murrumbateman Field Days, stated the grant, managed by Destination NSW, would boost the event’s profile and increase visitation for the 2024 event, scheduled for October 19-20. “This funding allows us to attract more people from south Sydney and coastal regions, showcasing our attractions and the beauty of the whole Yass Valley region,” White said. The Murrumbateman Field Days, the largest event in the Yass Valley and key supporter of the Destination Southern NSW agritourism strategy, are crucial for promoting the local farming industry, supporting the hospitality and wine industries, and engaging local businesses and community groups. Last year, the event generated over $7.3 million for the local economy and $44 million for the wider Australian economy. Mr White highlighted the grant’s significance, noting that it supports not only Murrumbateman but also other AAFDA Field Days like Henty and Tocal. He said: “This funding is a great boost for regional agritourism, reinforcing the importance of Field Days in rural business and tourism strategies.” Conveniently located off the Barton Highway, and close to the Hume, the event is accessible for visitors from Sydney and the Southern Highlands, and is an easy drive from Canberra, the Riverina, the South Coast, and the Snowy Mountains. Tom concluded: ‘With this grant the Murrumbateman Field Days will now be able to offer regional NSW farming industries a greater chance to benefit from increased promotional activities and will help showcase the best of our local rural region’.

Field Days success a boom for local economy

This year’s Murrumbateman Field Days has been heralded as a major success as the sun shone on the 15,000 visitors who streamed through the gates over the weekend.   The 2023 Murrumbateman Field Days ran from 21-22 October and showcased over 300 exhibitors, with the hot ticket items ranging from tractors and mowers, to water tanks and transportable houses.   Aside from the regular attractions, the Field Days introduced new highlights such as camel rides, George the Farmer, Farmer Dave and his performing dogs, and a big yellow digger. The event also featured drone displays and snake demonstrations that attracted crowds four people deep. Tom White, Murrumbateman Field Days Manager, expressed his elation with the event’s turnout and said that the local economy benefited immensely from the influx of visitors. “We welcomed over 15,000 visitors over the weekend, with an additional 2,000 volunteers, exhibitors and supporters onsite enjoying the event,” said Tom. “The exhibitors reported high sales this year, with visitors spending money on both big and small items.”  The success of the Field Days was evident as local businesses such as YLess4U and Taylex Tanks reported a significant increase in their sales and enquiries. Septic Science, a water treatment company and a regular Field Days exhibitor, said via Facebook that Saturday was ‘the biggest show they had ever had’.  The Murrumbateman Community Association, which oversees the event, was grateful for the support of the 15 community organisations and all the volunteers who helped deliver the Field Days. “For most, this is their largest fundraising event of the year, so all the money raised at the Field Days goes back into the local community,” said Iain McCall, the association’s president. ‘We couldn’t do it without them”.    Planning for the Murrumbateman Field Days 2024 is already underway and will take place on 19-20 October.
