The Countdown Is On: Check Out the Final Lineup!

The countdown is on as the final line up of events for the weekend is announced!

Tom White, Manager of the Field Days, said: “This year, we have an exciting mix of farming equipment and agricultural exhibitors, along with family favourites like the Hawkesbury Working Sheep Dogs and Noah’s Racing Pigs. We have a great mix of old and new technology, with the Yass Antique Machinery Club showcasing their historic farming equipment, and over 300 exhibitors presenting many of the latest Ag Tech products. It’s a fantastic way to explore the past, present, and future of agriculture.” 

New for 2024, the Telstra Tech Alley will highlight the impact of technology on rural communities and showcase how cutting-edge innovations are revolutionising farming practices.  

The Komatsu Demonstration Area is now bigger and better, featuring hands-on experiences with the latest Intelligent Machine Control and GPS technology. Visitors can even try the excavator simulator and test these advanced machines before making a purchase. 

Kids will have a blast in the Hutcheon & Pearce Fun Zone, where they can drive a John Deere pedal tractor, while adults can test their golf skills with the ‘Big Putts Challenge’—a thrilling twist on traditional golf using a compact excavator to putt a giant ball. It’s a great way to entertain the family while checking out the latest farm machinery. 

What else is on? 

  • Camel Rides: Bushfield Camels from Gunderoo will be bringing their charismatic camels for rides and sensory experiences. 
  • Reptile Show: Reptile fans are in for a treat when renowned snake expert Geoff Coombes OAM from Living with Wildlife, along with Gavin Smith from ACT Snake Removals, teaches visitors how to live peacefully with local venomous snakes. 
  • Golden Gumboot Challenge: After a 30-year hiatus, the quirky Golden Gumboot Throwing Competition returns! Everyone is invited to try their hand at hurling a gumboot as far as possible for a chance to win the coveted Golden Gumboot trophy. Men’s, women’s, and children’s trophies are up for grabs, sponsored by local gumboot seller Murrumbateman Rural Supplies. 
  • Free Face Painting: Kids aged 3-12 can enjoy free face painting, sponsored by the Murrumbateman Community Association, helping to ease the cost of a big day out. 
  • Antique Machinery Display: The Yass Antique Machinery Club will showcase a fascinating static display of traditional farming equipment, along with old-time living demonstrations and their annual ‘tractor pull’ competition. 
  • Helicopter Rides: Enjoy a scenic flight with Snowy Mountains Helicopters. The helicopter can carry up to three passengers, including children, with prices starting from $80 for a five minute ride. 
  • Emergency Services Demonstrations: Emergency services will be well-represented, with the SES, RFS, and NSW Mounted Police showcasing their skills, while the VRA will impress with their ‘jaws of life’ and car rescue demonstrations. 

There’s plenty of extra excitement beyond the main attractions. Visitors can enjoy stage entertainment featuring local musicians and dance troupes. For the little ones, Outback Pony Rides and the Kids Farmyard Trail offer fun, hands-on experiences. Witness Brumby demonstrations that showcase these magnificent horses, and younger children can enjoy the Old Kentucky Animal Farm for a hands-on encounter with farmyard animals. There will be agricultural drone displays on the oval, while Durkins Amusements provides a range of rides, including dodgem cars, the Cha Cha, a giant slide, cup and saucer rides, and a jumping castle. Additionally, livestock exhibitors will be showcasing their adorable Babydoll sheep and impressive Galloway cows, making for a well-rounded day of family-friendly activities. 

Over 16 community groups will be providing catering and event services across the site, to ensure visitors have a great day out. Last year, the Murrumbateman Field Days—run by the local Murrumbateman Community Association—ploughed nearly $70,000 back into the Yass Valley community, thanks to volunteer support. 

Adult day tickets are $25, youth are $12, family day passes are $60, and kids under 10 enter for free. Concession and weekend passes are also available. Murrumbateman Field Days 2024 Delivers Outstanding Results for the Community

As the dust settles on the 2024 Murrumbateman Field Days, the event has wrapped up with strong visitor and exhibitor feedback, solidifying its status as a key flagship event for the region. The event welcomed nearly 16,000 attendees over the weekend, with visitors enjoying the good weather, a great atmosphere, and a diverse range of activities and exhibitors. A standout achievement was the $100,000 raised by local community groups through their catering and event services. These funds go directly to the 17 local schools, churches, sporting clubs, scouts and community organisations, and the RFS, many of which rely on the Field Days as their primary annual fundraiser. Other survey highlights showed that 91% of attendees felt the event met their expectations, with many already planning to return in 2025 – a great result! Exhibitors also reported a successful weekend, with 75% achieving their objectives, whether in sales, lead generation, or customer engagement. Iain McCall, President of the Murrumbateman Community Association, said: ‘We are thrilled that we could raise over $100,000 for the local community – which really sums up why we are here! We could not hold the event without the hard work of more than 2,000 volunteers, as well as the support of local businesses, the Yass Valley Council, and the wider community. Everyone plays their own important part and together we can be very proud of the event we deliver for the Yass Valley and region.” Event Manager Tom White highlighted the weekend’s success: “We had nearly 16,000 people on site over the weekend and it’s heartwarming to hear that so many people enjoyed their weekend at the Field Days and that we delivered a great event for the region. With the great weather and lively atmosphere, visitors stayed longer and truly enjoyed the day. We also saw a big jump in visitors from 50–100 km away, showing the success of our Destination NSW-funded ‘out-of-region’ advertising campaign – a great way to showcase the best of the Yass Valley.” Tom concluded with this reflection: “I was speaking to one of our long-time exhibitors and I asked him why he kept coming to field days. The response was “It’s about having good conversations”. This really summed up to me why we hold the field days. Be it exhibitors talking to new or existing clients, farmers catching up with mates, community groups promoting their organisations or families having a great day out, it’s a meeting point for them to all look forward to each year.” Planning is already underway for the 2025 Murrumbateman Field Days, scheduled for October 18 -19, 2025. Winners of the Telstra Tech Innovation Award!

This year, we invited AgTech innovators to showcase their innovative products designed to improve farming and rural living. The response was amazing, with many creative entries highlighting the ingenuity and innovation within the AgTech community. Congratulations to winner AgtechData for their app that eliminates the need for paper files by capturing essential farming data. It helps track chemical usage, livestock traceability and workplace health and safety — all in one place. The award was presented by Christina Cawkill, Telstra Regional Engagement Manager, to Landon Hodgkinson from AgtechData, who shared: “The app was designed and tested on my own farm in the Yass region. It digitalises all your agriculture paperwork for traceability and biosecurity, and it’s all on a live system. Thank you to Telstra and the Murrumbateman Field Days for this award – and a great event!” A special commendation went to Matt Smoker from Mozzie Fire for their lightweight portable bushfire protection system. Commended for the simplicity of the design, Matt explained: “After my wife and kids were caught in a bushfire during the 2020 fires, we realised we needed better protection for our family that ‘wives at home’ could easily use. We designed a sprinkler solution that’s easy to deploy quickly by one person in any area close to a water source. Thank you to Telstra for the award!” The Tech Innovation Award, proudly sponsored by Telstra, highlights advancements in technology that support rural businesses and agriculture – an effort Telstra is actively supporting in rural communities. This initiative supports the growth of the Murrumbateman Field Days ‘Tech Hub’ area which showcases technology that advances agriculture and rural businesses.
